Argan Oil for Ageless Eyes

By Elena McCree

Argan oil is the latest buzz in the beauty industry, because it is being hailed as the most innovative new anti aging ingredient. Recently introduced to North America, argan oil is getting the attention of skin care experts due to its capability to combat eye wrinkles and preserve a youthful appearance.

Often called the "Gold of Morocco," argan oil is extracted from the fruit pit kernels of the argan tree, which grows in the semi-desert environmental conditions unique to southwestern Morocco. It is considered one of the rarest oils in the world due to the limited supply and small growing area. Argan oil has been produced and used by the Berber women of Morocco for centuries and is still a major source of economic support for the area.

After the fruit pits are broken open, the kernels found inside are put through a cold-press to extract the oil. A cold-press is used to retain all of the oil's nutrients and maximize the many health benefits that the oil provides. For the edible culinary oil, the kernels are roasted before the cold-press process, giving this exotic oil its signature nutty flavor that makes it perfect for salads and dipping bread.

The raw oil from un-roasted kernels is used on the skin. This cosmetic argan oil is quickly becoming an anti aging super ingredient, because it is so rich in vitamin E. A powerful antioxidant, vitamin E protects the skin against the free radicals that cause eye wrinkles and other fine lines. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory agent and helps lock moisture in the skin. In addition to vitamin E, argan oil is packed with hydrating essential fatty acids, linoleic and oleic acids that increases the skin's flexibility and strength.

As we age, our skin loses moisture and collagen, causing wrinkles and sagging. The skin around the eye is the thinnest on the face, so it is often the first area to show the signs of aging. Using argan oil on this delicate tissue can restore its moisture and provide a protective barrier, diminishing the appearance of eye wrinkles and preventing further skin damage.

In addition to reducing eye wrinkles and strengthening the skin to maintain a youthful appearance, cosmetic argan oil is also an effective treatment for psoriasis, eczema and acne because it reduces inflammation, prevents moisture loss and regulates the skin's oil production.

Argan oil can also be used as an anti aging massage oil. Plus, it nourishes and hydrates hair and nails, and pregnant women have found argan oil beneficial for diminishing the appearance of stretch marks.

Argan oil can be purchased in its original form and sold as either culinary or cosmetic argan oil, or it can be found in anti eye wrinkle creams and other anti aging products. One anti wrinkle cream that contains argan oil is BABOR Argan Cream. This cream also contains arganyl, which are polyphenols extracted from the argan tree leaves that prevent collagen breakdown and improve the skin's elasticity, and aloe vera to hydrate and rejuvenate skin cells.

With all of these skin care benefits, it's no wonder that argan oil is being called an anti aging super ingredient and one of the most potent eye wrinkle fighters available.
